Oriental Works of Art Auctions
Currently the demand for Oriental and Asian items such as Ivory figures, Okimono, Cloisonné, metal wares including bronzes and other carved items is particularly strong. A vastly diverse range of items from blue and white and famille rose china, tiny netsukes and hardstone figures to intricately worked large scale pieces. In 2011 an exceptionally beautiful ivory work box containing a superb array of needlework items sold for £31,000.
Other examples of Oriental works of art include textiles and rice paper drawings plus white metal items, our Oriental Items section encompasses the region as a whole thereby attracting the widest group of buyers to obtain the highest possible realised prices.
With such a wide ranging subject the department welcomes all items of ivory, okimonos, netsuke’s, mother-of-pearl, cloisonné and enamel wares, metal wares including bronze and brass, carved jade, jadeite and hardwood, blue & white and famille rose china, textiles including robes, drawings and scrolls, furniture, white metal, manuscripts, jewellery, amongst others.
Sheffield Auction Gallery wholeheartedly supports the work done to stop the illegal trade in ivory and has made charitable donations to The Born Free Foundation and Wildaid.org's #jointheherd campaign. The ivory items which we offer for sale in auction have been authenticated to comply with current regulations ensuring that all pieces are of the correct age and type permitted and are all pre-1947 in date. Where appropriate any items requiring a CITES license will carry the relevant Article 10 certificate.
