18.     A WWII Set of Five Medals and Miniatures, made up of 1939/45 Star, Atlantic Star with France and Germany bar, Pacific Star, War Medal and Defence Medal, issued to Second Radio Officer, George B. Wilkinson of the Merchant Navy. This lot also includes contemporary papers, certificates, photographs, cap, buttons, convoy details among other items, plus a later picture diary collating Mr. Wilkinson's time in the war, made up of text, postcards, photographs, etc.

* Born in 1923 in London, Mr. Wilkinson appears to have been fascinated by the sea and ships from an early age. He joined the New Zealand Shipping Co in 1941 and qualified as a Radio Officer by April 1942. He joined SS Kent in Liverpool later that month, bound for New Zealand. After time in America training and on stand by, Mr Wilkinson joined the North Atlantic convoys in 1944 and spent the rest of the war on these, during trips to Australia and New Zealand. He was discharged in December 1945. £50-100
