Packing & Postage Service

Our Pack & Post service can only be advised once accounts are settled in full.

Below are a selection of shipping companies who may be able to assist with Pack & Post, however Sheffield Auction Gallery does not make recomendations.

If packing and postage of a Lot is important please check prior to bidding what the potential arrangements and costs would be.

Overseas buyers; we recommend that you contact an external pack and post company as soon as possible for a quotation.

Sheffield Auction Gallery cannot post any ivory items or items containing ivory elements to the USA and are unable to assist in the acquisition of relevant export licenses. It is the purchasers responsibility to ensure prior to bidding that they are able to obtain the necessary paperwork.

For items which are small / lightweight (i.e. under 2kg) and non-fragile we may be able to pack and post in-house, please be aware there is a minimum in-house packing charge of £12 (for small packets, jiffy bags etc.) and £15 (for bulkier boxes) regardless of Lot value. If we are able to P&P in-house we aim to do so within 3 weeks of the auction by insured Special Delivery or Parcelforce 48 only.

If a request for in-house Pack & Post has been received and we have completed the packing if that service is then declined we reserve the right to charge £5 unpacking fee to cover the time and materials used.

If buyers wish to send their own materials and postage cost for us to pack goods there is a £2 charge for the time required to do so and take to the post office if necessary.

PLEASE NOTE - Should a parcel be lost or damaged during transit the Royal Mail and Parcel Force will only refund the total hammer price in the event of a claim. Therefore, we are also unable to refund any additional costs i.e. buyers premium, packing charge, etc. If you are unable to accept this risk you would need to arrange collection by your own choice of courier.

PLEASE NOTE – We do not pack, post or arrange to post any edged / bladed weapons or firearms of any type. We also do not pack paintings or framed pictures in-house.

Please ensure if you intend to bid that you are able to collect yourself or make your own arrangements.

Once you have instructed a courier, please email us to advise who is collecting for you. Please also ensure the courier knows your full details including Sale Date and Lot Number(s). We WILL NOT be able to release goods until we have confirmed all details are correct, this is for buyer's protection.

Auction Logistics from Mail Boxes Etc.

Once our catalogue(s) have been uploaded to, Auction Logistics will pre-price the lots and the quotation will appear in the 'shipping' tab underneath the lot image. The day following the sale, online bidders will receive an automatic delivery quotation from Auction Logistics with a quick and easy link to pay for shipping – which can be done securely through their saleroom account. Following a short opt-in period, your supporting store will arrange to collect the items with us directly.

The Royal Mail and Parcelforce has an extensive list of both prohibited items not allowed to be sent and items that are excluded from compensation cover. Sheffield Auction Gallery use only these services to send out packed items. We are happy to pack for customers own choice of courier collection (where applicable, please see P&P above).

Items which are not covered by compensation include, but are not limited to, the following; Antiques, Artwork, Ceramics, Coins, Clocks, Collectables Toys, Diamonds, Furniture, Firearms, Fur, Glass, Gold, Jewellery, Minerals, Models, Plaster, Resin, Packaging, Stamps, Watches.

Where The Royal Mail and Parcelforce do settle claims for compensation the lowest of the cost/sale price will be used to settle a claim, i.e. the hammer price, subject to the compensation cover, packaging and postage costs are not refunded.
